Top 10 Cafe's in Kingston for Freelancers and Entrepreneurs on the go.

This article is not just for Jamaican freelancers and entrepreneurs but also for freelancers from any country who may be visiting Kingston and want to know where the best places are to get work done and feel comfortable with like minded people. So here are my top ten best cafe's in Kingston for freelancers and entrepreneurs on the go.

#10 - FOOTPRINTS CAFE

So I found this cafe on a drive to another location and it was the sign that caught my attention. So when my friend Sue said she wanted to work at a cafe I said we should try this one. On the day we went we were happy to see we were there before the lunch crowd. We got a great spot where we could work and we even had lunch there as well which wasn't bad at all. It was a hot day but we were by a fan so it wasn't so bad. To see more pictures from this cafe check out their Instagram page at @footprintscafeja

Opening Hours: 7:00 AM - 12:00 AM (Mondays - Saturdays)

8:30 AM - 2:30 PM (Sundays)

Pros:

  • Jamaican food options available - If your looking for Jamaican food, this is great for lunch or dinner.

  • Free WiFi

  • Very spacious - lounge section, bar section, dining section

  • Friendly staff

  • Food and drinks are affordable

Cons:

  • Outdoors, there is no AC. So on a hot day its really hot but they do have sections that is covered. and fans at different points throughout the area.

  • Not a lot of electricity sockets available. It seems that there is just one section where you can pug in if your laptop battery is low.

#9 - CAFE DOLCE

I was pretty excited to visit Cafe Dolce and I was not disappointed with the food but I was a bit disappointed with the WiFi. I can't see myself spending the entire day here to work although it was comfortable. I would probably have to arrive early just to make sure I got a seat that was close to one of the few electricity sockets they have available or make sure to have my laptop fully charged before going. Other than that this place is great for meeting up with clients or friends and the food is very delicious. To see more pictures from this cafe check out their Instagram page at @cafedolceja

Opening Hours: 7:00 AM - 7:00 pm (Mondays - Thursdays)

7:00 AM - 8:00 PM (Fridays - Saturdays)

7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Sundays)

Pros:

  • Excellent food and drinks

  • Spacious and good amount of seating

  • Seating is both downstairs and upstairs

  • Excellent customer service and servers are very attentive

Cons:

  • Code for WiFi only lasts for 2 hours

  • Code for WiFi is only for one device

  • Not enough electricity sockets (So make sure your laptop is fully charged)

  • Menu prices does not include tax so you find that after you have placed your order tax is added after so your tab is more than you expected. At other cafes the tax is already included in the price seen in the menu.

#8 - TWENTY FOUR SEVEN CAFE

Jamaica Pegasus 24/7 Cafe is the most popular location for freelancers and entrepreneurs on the go. Its very spacious and the food is very good. My favorites are the desserts and the pannini's. It's safe to say the food is amazing, after all its within the hotel so it must be good. To see more photos of 24/7 Cafe check out their Instagram page at @jamaicapegasus

Opening Hours: 24/7

Pros:

  • Very spacious: dining area, lounge and patio

  • Central AC

  • Very delicious food

  • Free WiFi

  • Ample electricity sockets

  • Try not to get hooked on the desserts. They are really good!

Cons:

  • Free WiFi - in order to get the WiFi code you have to buy something which is fine but the code does expire after 2 hours (I think).

  • Can be full during certain times of the day. When I say full I mean you can't find a spot to work and its normally in the late afternoon it becomes the most full. So seat availability depends on what day and time of time you arrive there.

  • Even though the food is great the menu is kind of pricey but the food is so good you probably won't mind that much.

#7 - RITUALS COFFEE HOUSE

This is another popular one I like to go to only because it was one of the first cafe's I've ever been to and it just holds a special place in my heart. I love their raspberry chai tea and the pralines and cream chiller ....yum! Even though the place is small it gives you a sense of coziness. To see more pictures from this cafe check out their Instagram page at @ritualscoffeehouseja

Opening Hours: 7:30 AM - 7:00 pm (Mondays - Fridays)

9:00 AM - 8:00 PM (Saturdays)

10:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Sundays

Pros:

  • Great breakfast and lunch options

  • Free Wifi (just have to buy something first to get the code which is on the receipt)

  • Ample electricity sockets

  • Great customer service. If you are a regular they remember you and what you like

Cons:

  • It can get a little loud because of the various machines used to create some of the delicious drinks and coffees. Also when there are too many people inside it can be noisy as well. So having earphones is crucial if your going to work here all day.

#6 - STARBUCKS JAMAICA

This is the latest franchise to open in Jamaica. It's been in Kingston for a couple months now and a new location will be opening in New Kingston soon. The one I visited was the one in Liguanea when it just opened. When I visit there was a lot of people and it was just after midday on a Saturday. It's safe to say Starbucks is quite busy any day of the week. To see more pictures from this cafe check out their Instagram page at @starbucksjamaica

Opening Hours: 6:30 AM - 7:00 pm (Mondays - Saturdays)

7:00 AM - 8:30 PM (Sundays)

Pros:

  • Very spacious - Has a lot of space

  • Free WiFi

  • Extensive coffee and tea options

  • Very good pastries

Cons:

  • Can get full sometimes to the point where you cant find seating.

  • Pricey - You can expect a pretty penny here as its not exactly cheap.

  • I wouldn't say its a good option for lunch as the food items are light and considered snack items.

#5 - THE WINE SHOP

This is one of my favorite little spots. It's not very big but its very small and quaint. I also love the food options as it has a nice selection of vegetarian dishes or healthy dishes. Obviously another reason I love it is because it has a good selection of wines and spirits. Hey! Sometimes a girl needs a glass of wine during the day. They also have an outside area as well but its not good for working though, as there is not much privacy and the noise and the heat can be a little much, but its great for people who smoke. Opening Hours: 11:00 AM - 10:00 pm (Mondays)

11:00 AM - 11:00 PM (Tuesdays - Saturdays)

Closed (Sundays)

Pros:

  • Small, intimate and quiet.

  • Excellent customer service

  • Healthy meal options

  • Free WiFi

  • A nice selection of wines and spirits

  • Air conditioned (but also has an outside area for people who smoke)

Cons:

  • Inside is very small but if you go from opening time you can get a nice seat. It only seems to get really busy during lunch hours or late afternoons.

  • Menu can be a bit pricey if you are planning to have lunch here but its healthy and delicious.

  • Limited electricity sockets

#4 - TEA TREE CREPERIE

Tea Tree Creperie is a very nice place to work. You can either work inside or outside on the terrace. The food is amazing for both breakfast and lunch. Stepping into this eatery you can see its very creative with writings on the glass of all who have entered its doors. To see more pictures from this cafe check out their Instagram page at @teatreecreperie

Opening Hours: 8:00 AM - 10:00 pm (Mondays - Wednesdays)

8:00 AM - 12:00 AM (Thursdays - Fridays)

  • Very spacious with seating inside as well as the terrace.

  • Air conditioned

  • Excellent breakfast and lunch options

  • Free WiFi

  • Nice drink options

  • Ample electricity sockets

Cons:

  • Can be a little pricey but there are cheap options, you just have to look extensively through the menu.

#3 - CANNONBALL CAFE

Now there are about three or four Cannonball Cafe's in Kingston and all are equally nice but I think my favorite would probably be the location in Loshusan. I love their iced coffee and Cuban panini. It's a bit on the pricey side but I do appreciate their customer service and attention to detail. They also are very inviting. To see more pictures from this cafe check out their Instagram page at @cannonballcafe

Opening Hours: 7:00 AM - 7:00 pm (Mondays - Fridays)

8:30 AM - 7:00 PM (Saturdays)

9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Sundays)

Pros:

  • Spacious and comfortable

  • Good customer service

  • Extensive menu

  • Free WiFi

  • Ample electricity sockets

Cons:

  • Menu is a little bit pricey but the food is good.

#2 - PRESS SHOP CO.

This was a unique find. This cafe is fairly new and I'm in love with their interior and their fruit smoothies. What's great about this cafe is that it also has a print section where they print on things such as bags. On certain days they also serve sushi...yummm!!!! Did I mention the food is delicious? Definitely one to try. To see more pictures from this cafe check out their Instagram page at @pressshopco

Opening Hours: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM (Mondays - Fridays)

9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Saturdays)

Closed (Sundays)

Pros:

  • Modern interior. Comfortable and stylish.

  • Free WiFi

  • Air conditioned but also has seating outside

  • Printing services available

  • Eclectic food menu that's affordable

  • Friendly staff

Cons:

  • Very small with limited seating

#1 - TOYOTA COFFEE HOUSE

This coffee house is by far my favorite for working. The WiFi is strong and its spacious. They don't have an extensive menu but they have one of the best coffee's I've had. Their tuna sandwich is really nice as well and the bread pudding with rum sauce is to die for.

I also like that they employ people who are deaf. You will know they are deaf based on the logo on their shirt. If you can't speak sign language, don't worry they have a sign with common phrases for communicating with a deaf person who may be serving you or taking your order.

I also like that they have two views, one of the mountainside and one of the new set of Toyota vehicles. It even might entice you to go and look at some of the models they have in the showroom. To see more pictures from this cafe check out their Instagram page at @toyota_coffee_house

Opening Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 pm (Mondays - Fridays)

Closed (Saturdays - Sundays)

Pros:

  • Free WiFi

  • Affordable menu options

  • Spacious and comfortable atmosphere

Cons:

  • Only 3 sets of electricity sockets available

  • Closes early and on weekends
